Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser Review

For a long while, the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser was the cream of the Waterpik crop. The flosser that absolutely everybody would recommend you buy. This product has now been discontinued and for good reason. Waterpik are growing as a company and they have more different products than ever before. The technology that they have worked hard to develop over the years has changed. This means that there are now better Waterpik products on the market. Meet the new best, the Waterpik WP-660.

Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser Has Been Discontinued

The discontinuation is only fairly recently. This means that you may still find some old stock of the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser kicking around. However, with the upgrades that you get with the WP-660 (we will talk about those in a short while), we really see no need to try and source old stock. It isn’t worth it. Yes. You are going to end up with something that is good, but it isn’t really going to be the ‘best’.

Going forward, we absolutely promise you that everybody will be recommending the WP-660 as the best water flosser on the market. Let’s give a comparison between the two. Just so you know a little bit about the similarities and the differences.

Both Countertop Water Flossers

These are both built to sit on your counter top during use. However, the design of the two are incredibly different.

The Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser is big and bulky. The base is 5.6-inches at the widest point. This means that you need a pretty large counter top to fit it with ease. On the other hand, the WP-660 has been trimmed down. It is over an inch smaller at the base. This means that you can fit in a smaller location.

The overall design is different too. While the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser has some large blue water tank on the top, the WP-660 tones this down a lot and goes for the clear and blue plastic combo. This means that it will fit in the most elegant of bathrooms with ease. Stick the original in there, and it is going to just look like it ‘stands out’ way too much.

Size of Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser

The WP-660 is about an inch longer than the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser. The length is in the actual flosser part (i.e. the part you put into your mouth). This means that it is a great deal easier to clean the back of your mouth with the WP-660. Yes. It is possible with the discontinued model, but it can be a little bit cumbersome at times.

While we are talking about the actual handheld unit, we also want to point out that the WP-660 is a lot ‘thinner’. It feels better in your hands. The original could be a bit cumbersome for smaller hands. The WP-660 is really a good unit for the entire family.

Better Switch on the WP-660

The WP-660 has a slider switch to turn it on and off. The product it is replacing has a push button switch. This is a fantastic change. With the previous ‘model’, it would be easy to hit the switch during your clean, which just gets ridiculously annoying when you have done it for the 3rd time and you are late for work. There is zero chance you will be doing this with the WP-660.

Timer Function

The WP-660 has added a timer function. This ensures that you are able to clean your teeth for the recommended amount of time (about 1-minute with the water flosser). It may seem like a small addition, but it is surprisingly beneficial.

Massage Function

The other change is the addition of a massage function. This is great for gum health. It also feels absolutely fantastic, particularly if you have orthodontics or tooth implants. It can also help to combat or deal with gum disease.

Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser Similarities

Waterpik know that they had a good thing going with the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser. This means that not everything has changed about it. You still have the ten pressure settings and the 360-degree rotating tip. You still have the 90-second water reservoir. All the good things, but the WP-660 just takes all of that to the ‘next level’.

Dental Detective’s Final Thoughts

As you can see from our Waterpik WP-660 review, this unit is a huge upgrade on the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser. It is a solid replacement for the now discontinued product. This replacement for the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser gets our highest recommendation for a countertop or family water flosser.
